Thank you to everyone who left kind words about my hubby's Nana. :) You guys rock!!

Sooooooooooooooo speaking of cold and flu season...and isn't everyone??! Did all of you out there get a flu shot this year?? Did you have your kids get one?? We got a letter yesterday from our hospital that the Boo-Bear should come in and have one. The thing is...she has never had one. The hubby gets a flu shot every year. He has no choice being military. I remember when he got his first one years ago. He promptly got the flu.....and again the next year but not as severe. The doctor told him that it happens that way with the flu shot. Well I'm worried now that if the rest of us get out first flu shot that we will get the flu. And oh my gosh don't even let me get started on Swine Flu. Sheesh! We get a call once a week, at least, from the automated school line about it.

Usually during the Fall I stock up on medicines for colds and sore throats and fevers. When we were in Korea we got the nose swab at school. This year I am seriously considering the flu shot. So what say you internet?? Are you getting the vaccine.....are you letting your kids get it......how are you preparing for this winter time/cold and flu season???

Yes, I will be getting a flu shot. I haven't done that before but did contract the flu a year ago and don't want to go through that again, ever! My daughter will also get the flu shot but, after conferring with her pediatrician, she's not planning on having our 14 month old grandson innoculated.

So, there you go, for what that's worth. ;)

Hubby and I get our flu shots yearly. When we don't, we end up with the flu. Both of us have gotten our shots this year.

Dawn....so sorry to hear about Nana being sick. How wonderful that you were able to drop everything and go look after her. A testament to you and your family that picked up the slack while you were gone. Wishing her good health! My girls are 12 and 14 - they both got the flu shot last week - no reaction. Hubby gets one every year....and I'm going one morning this week. Not sure about the swine flu shot....that's separate? I haven't heard anything about that - must look into it. So many decisions to be made as a parent, aren't there? A 20th and a 17th birthday recently - wow. Congrats! Hope you all stay well...how are the quilts coming? Is the machine running like a dream? Hope so...take care and enjoy the day! Piece...

So glad that you were able to take care of Nana! I hope she is feeling better.

My kids don't get the flu shot, but the mist. There are people who say that the mist isn't as good as the shot, but my kids didn't get sick when they got it either. I get the mist too, but have also had the shot as well. I haven't ever been sick right after with either one.

Good luck with this! It's a hard call.

I've never gotten a flu shot. Usually don't get the flu either. I've been taking vitamins, a good dose of garlic capsules and other supplements for about 5-6 yrs. now and last fall/winter/spring I didn't even get a sniffle. Well I shouldn't say that, because I sniffle year round, but no colds or flu. I think the sniffling has to do with a slight cat allergy or maybe dust.

I don't know if I will bother with the swine flu shot or not. I'm in the age group that will get it last and the only health issues I have is mild hypertension and mild pre-diabetes. Otherwise healthy, and I have misgivings about how fast they pushed this vaccine through. We have no idea what the long term complications could be. I'm also old enough to have lived through several "new" flu bugs so probably have a certain amount of immunity built up. Just my take on things.

Melissa and i both got the flu over christmas in 2001 ... it was awful - and i don't ever want to lose three weeks of my life like that again - so i get the flu shot - Melissa started getting it two years ago (because she DID get sick again) ... my grandkids get the mist up their noses and haven't had any trouble with it (knock on wood) ... i won't say i haven't had the flu since, but it hasn't been NEARLY as bad

We have/will be getting the seasonal flu shot, as we do every year. We will NOT get the h1n1 shot tho, it's being rushed WAY too much and I'm not sure it's ready!

Bob & I got our flu shots yesterday. We get them every year. It beats getting the flu - did that one year, hope to never repeat the experience!

Vaccinations scare me, because sometimes they have adverse complications. I sometimes get them, and sometimes not. I tend to wait until a few people have gotten them, so I can get the word on the street about complications. This time, I haven't heard about any, so I will probably get it. I'm sick enough from allergies. Probably won' get the swine flu shot - they say it has had the same amount of testing, but I'm not really sure. I think a lot of it is overreaction - a big marketing ploy for the drug manufacturers.

I'm not getting it but I have asked Keith to esp. since he travels so much I don't want him bringing the flu home to me. They're offering it free at his office too through their insurance company (BCBS) which I thought was pretty interesting.

I was also thinking last night that I need to go stock up on some cough medicine and NyQuil.

Yes, we are getting flu shots. DH has asthma and he has been getting them for many years. I didn't until about 3 years ago but they provide them at work so I finally started getting them.

Yep, I'm gettin the flu shot--we'll have a nurse come into our office to administer them next week. And no, I don't know anyone who has gotten the flu as a result of the flu shot--the virus is dead, at least for most strains they vaccinate against. There were two years (in adult memory, which gets shorter and shorter every year!) when I DIDN'T get the shot--and got the flu. Thought I was gonna die, and in hindsight, I probably should have gone to the emergency room one of those times. Yep, that will be me, first in line for the shot next week!

So glad 'Nana' is on the improve. You are pretty special to make that trip to help out. I have the flu shot every year at work and this year my daughter had it before her trip to China, then my son had it because he always gets sick and hubby had it too. I had my swine flu shot this week but don't think the rest of the family will have it.
